Polymarket and OpenWorlds are developing AI-based trading agents

The company Polymarket, in partnership with OpenWorlds, is introducing autonomous artificial intelligence agents to prediction markets covering politics, sports, and thousands of other events.

According to a statement from OpenWorlds, the artificial intelligence lab is partnering with Polymarket to allow agents to perform the steps traders usually carry out themselves: finding a suitable market, evaluating it, and executing a trade. OpenWorlds describes its software as a way to run this process repeatedly on real markets.

The company says it is developing personal trading agents for consumers and retail traders. Its proposed workflow allows the agent to search across markets and act on the resulting evaluation, rather than providing a person with a list of possible trades to execute manually. OpenWorlds also compares this process to the research and trading work carried out by investment firms.

How OpenWorlds agents will trade on Polymarket

OpenWorlds describes three interrelated tasks for its agents: search, evaluation, and trading. In practice, an agent searching on Polymarket will need to identify the contract associated with a specific event before evaluating the available information and deciding to place a position. The company says its system is designed to repeat this process as events and markets change.

Polymarket lists contracts tied to outcomes in politics, sports, and other areas. Prices on these markets shift as participants buy and sell positions before the event resolves. OpenWorlds' offering integrates into this existing process an automated trader that will perform the research and execution steps described by the company.

For a retail user, the degree of control granted to the agent matters, since searching a market and placing an order are different actions. OpenWorlds' privacy policy states that users own their wallets through their chosen wallet provider and that the company does not collect or store private keys. It also states that its services can support delegated signing for AI-driven operations.

The company's policy states that OpenWorlds records agent configurations, activity logs, and results. According to the company, when a user enables the integration, requests and their associated data may be sent to a third-party trading platform to perform actions and return results. OpenWorlds also says it uses AI system activity data to train and improve its models and platform features.

The partnership brings the agents' workflow to a platform that is changing how applications access trading information. In September, Polymarket moved its core blockchain indexing system to an in-house division. Vice President of Engineering Josh Stevens said the new system can map some events on the blockchain 14 blocks, or roughly 28 seconds, faster, while Goldsky remains available as a backup option. The indexing system update covers data on trades, positions, and balances.
