Gunzilla Games delayed Off The Grid 1.0 until the Christmas holidays

Gunzilla Games has confirmed that the Off The Grid update to version 1.0 will be released during the Christmas holidays, later than the October 2026 date originally planned.

Alongside the update, the studio shared new data, including an increase in frame rate from 42 to 164 FPS on RTX 2060 graphics cards and a 35% rise in player retention over four weeks.

The studio’s own Kestrel anti-cheat system is now running on all servers following the first wave of bans in October. Players on PC and consoles can continue playing in early access until that time.

On May 29, Gunzilla published its development roadmap for 2026. It divided development into five phases running from June through October, with early access set to end by the game’s second anniversary, coinciding with the launch of version 1.0.

The roadmap included engine optimization, weapon and progression system updates, a rebuilt marketplace, new legendary weapons, proximity voice chat, and an enlarged map. The fourth phase, scheduled for September, combined a new AI-based anti-cheat system with the full migration to the GUNZ mainnet. The fifth phase in October was aimed at ramping up work with content creators and streamers in connection with the start of Season 3 of ranked play.

At the time, CEO Vlad Korolev stated:

“We have always believed that building Off The Grid is a long-term commitment“.

What is Off The Grid?

Off The Grid is a free-to-play third-person battle royale with extraction elements, created by Gunzilla Games and directed by filmmaker Neill Blomkamp. The game is set in the near future, where cybernetically modified contestants land on Teardrop Island to fight in a televised blood sport.

Players can personalize their characters with cybernetic limbs that change their movement and combat style. Matches combine classic battle royale action with looting and extraction, and the studio is also working on a 60-hour story campaign set in the same world.

The game is available in early access on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via the Epic Games Store and Steam, as well as on Mac and GeForce NOW. Early access began on October 8, 2024, with the Steam version launching on July 17, 2025.

Blockchain features are optional. Weapons, skins, cybernetic limbs, and other items can be traded as NFTs on GUNZ, Gunzilla’s own marketplace built on Avalanche, but players can enjoy the full game without using them. In September, GUNZ reported 636 sales on the marketplace in a single month, totaling 1.5 million GUN.

The studio has also invested in the development of competitive play. Over the summer, Off The Grid held a summer league with a $5,000 prize pool that ran over five weekends.

The launch of version 1.0 will mark the completion of a long journey. Off The Grid was originally slated for release in 2023.
