Meanwhile Raises $37.5 Million

Meanwhile, a company providing life insurance using BTC and backed by Sam Altman, has raised $37.5 million in new investment led by Bain Capital Crypto, bringing its total capital raised to more than $180 million.

Meanwhile, on October 8 the investment was announced, confirming the participation of Haun Ventures, Framework Ventures, Pantera Capital, Apollo, Northwestern Mutual Future Ventures, and Morgan Creek Digital. The Bermuda-based insurer said the funding was driven by increased demand for its BTC-denominated life insurance policies among wealthy families in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.

The company has signed agreements with 15 insurance brokers serving wealthy clients in international financial centers, including Switzerland, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United Arab Emirates.

The Company Raised $37.5 Million to Expand Insurance

The latest funding came from existing investors, with Bain Capital Crypto once again serving as lead investor after backing the company in previous funding rounds.

Meanwhile, in October 2025 the company raised $82 million in a funding round co-led by Bain Capital Crypto and Haun Ventures. These investments followed a $40 million Series A round completed in April of the same year, when Framework Ventures and Fulgur Ventures supported the insurer’s international expansion.

The $40 million the company previously raised under its BTC-based insurance funding program supported plans to expand access to bitcoin-based insurance, savings, and related financial products.

In October 2025, the funding round increased the total amount raised to approximately $122 million. With the latest $37.5 million investment and previous seed funding, Meanwhile has raised more than $180 million since its founding.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is among the company’s earliest investors, having participated in its initial funding. He was not named as a participant in the latest funding round in the October 8 announcement.

Meanwhile, co-founder and CEO Zach Townsend said the company receives requests from brokers whose clients would like to purchase insurance products that could help transfer bitcoin to family members.

“Brokers have been coming to us because their clients have been asking constantly,” Townsend said, explaining the company’s decision to expand its international distribution network.

The insurer expects the new funding to support its efforts to build relationships with financial advisors and insurance intermediaries serving wealthy clients outside the United States.

Bain Capital crypto partner Stephan Cohen cited the combination of traditional insurance operations and technology-focused development as the reason for renewing the investment.

According to Cohen, Meanwhile’s performance in 2026 confirmed the investor’s decision to provide additional capital was the right one. The company did not disclose specific revenue or valuation figures in its official funding announcement.
